• The Kingston Bridge the Gap Festival at Kingston Plaza features rides, games, food and entertainment continues through Sunday, Sept. 11. The event is sponsored by Crazy Over Art On Tour, Bridge the Gap on Gun Violence, the SEIU 1199 Union and Stop the Violence. Festival hours are Friday 3-10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled for Sunday night.
• Jazz act The Jerome Jennings Trio will perform at Maverick Concerts at 120 Maverick Road, Saturday, Sept. 10, at 8 p.m. The group features Juilliard Jazz orchestra program director Jerome Jennings on drums, Tadataka Unno, on piano, Elias Bailey, on bass accompanied by Laurin Talese on vocals. • The Hurley Library presents “Samuel Clemens: Tales of Mark Twain,” a two-act play that tells the story of the iconic author on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Hurley Reformed Church, 11 Main St., Hurley. The 100-minute play, featuring actor Joe Baer as Samuel Clemons, traces nearly eight decades of the famed author and lecturer’s life. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. • Folk musician John Gorka will perform as part of the Flying Cat Music Series on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Phoenicia United Methodist Church, 29 Church St., Phoenicia. • Historic Red Hook will present its second annual Cemetery Crawl. The event is both a seasonal Scavenger Hunt and a year-round, self-guided tour of six Red Hook cemeteries that offers highlights of the lives of interesting individuals and their memorials. All participants need is a smartphone and some good weather. Historic Red Hook will have a booth on Hardscrabble Day, on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the village of Red Hook, where it will officially launch the event. • The St. Remy Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners will have its monthly meeting Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Remy Firehouse, Station No. 1 on Main Street in St. Remy.
• The St. Remy Fire Department at 564 Main St., St. Remy will host a Brooks BBQ take-out dinner fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 12, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dinners include a half chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, cornbread and dessert. • The Gardiner Library, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner, will present a monthly community writing workshop with Gracie Bialecki starting Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Learn how to start writing creatively and how to develop a writing practice. Explore different avenues for inspiration via reading and discussion of outside texts, writing prompts, and reading aloud. The goal of the course is to encourage artistic exploration and writing in any form, so the classroom environment will be welcoming, supportive, and consistently respectful. The workshop is scheduled to meet the second Tuesday of every month except in October when it will meet the third Tuesday of the month, Oct. 18. • The Kingston Interfaith Council will host a benefit concert for Ukraine on Sunday, Sept. 11, at St. John’s Episcopal Church 207 Albany Ave., Kingston. The event kicks off with Ukrainian arts and crafts fair at 3 p.m., followed by a concert featuring Ukrainian and local music at 4 p.m. A $20 donation is suggested, but any and all donations are welcome. All proceeds go to Voices of Children, which gives psychological support to the children of Ukraine.
• Rosendale Theatre, 408 Main St., Rosendale, will show the documentary film “Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song,” on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The film explores Cohen’s life and work, focusing on the creation of his best-known composition, which took nearly seven years to complete and was initially rejected by the record company. • Bike Friendly Kingston will host monthly evening “Slow Rides” on the first Thursday of each month through October. • The Catskill Mountain Railroad’s Catskill Flyer scenic train rides have returned to the rails of the old Ulster and Delaware Railroad. The rides take place Saturdays through Sept. 17. Trains depart from the railroad’s Westbrook Lane station near the Hannaford Supermarket at Kingston Plaza in Kingston at 11 a.m. 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for an approximately one-hour ride. • The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills at 320 Sawkill Road in the town of Ulster presents its Encanto Festival on Sunday, Sept. 18, from noon to 2 p.m. This multigenerational outdoor event celebrates the Disney movie “Encanto” while exploring the meaningful messages from the Madrigal family.
