PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A teenage boy has been hurt and a dog has died following an overnight drive-by shooting in southeast Phoenix on Wednesday. Officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment building on South 45th Place, near 48th Street and Broadway Road, around 3:30 a.m. Police say shots were fired into an apartment from the outside, hitting the teen and a dog. Neighbors say they heard upward of 25 gunshots. One of the apartments was peppered with bullets.
The teen was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, but the dog did not survive. The boy is expected to be OK. One woman, who didn’t want to be identified, said shootings in the area are not rare. “I’ve seen at least three drive-by’s. I just want some protection. I have family members up in here it’s not just me,” she said. It’s even affected her own family. “My granddaughter was shot here a year ago in the face.”
Police are investigating and so far, there’s been no information on possible suspects or arrests.
