Suns' Mikal Bridges Ecstatic to Stay in the Valley – Sports Illustrated

Phoenix Suns forward Mikal Bridges was not shy in talking about how happy he is to remain a Sun despite rampant trade rumors throughout the summer.
On Tuesday night, Bridges appeared on the Arizona Diamondbacks pregame show where he (again) professed his love for the city of Phoenix.
“I’m happy to be in Phoenix, I don’t leave for the off-season,” Bridges said while mentioning the high temperatures. “I love it here so much… I was very nervous but I’m happy I’m here.”
When Brooklyn Nets superstar forward Kevin Durant requested a trade on Jun. 30, the NBA world went into a frenzy.
Although the Suns just completed a season where they won a league-leading 64 games, multiple reports started to swirl that they were interested in Durant. It was Bridges who was at the forefront of those conversations.
Bridges took a huge leap in his game last season, averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per night. It was on the defensive side of the ball where the 26-year-old was at his best as he was named to the All-NBA First Team Defense and finished second in voting for the 2021-22 Defensive Player of The Year award behind Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart.
Going into next season, expectations are sky-high for Bridges. With Durant trade rumors in the rearview mirror, Bridges can focus strictly on playing basketball but he may now have an extra chip on his shoulder and something more to prove.
