KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – With the help of a resident, sheriff’s deputies on Monday, Nov. 21, found a driver who had just led police on a pursuit that was halted because of high speeds and bad road conditions.
Police found the driver and passenger after they abandoned the vehicle.
The incident began around 3:45 p.m. when police tried to stop a vehicle with expired license plates near Riverview Drive and East E Avenue in Kalamazoo County’s Cooper Township.
The driver fled north on Riverview, with speeds reaching 85 mph. Police ended the pursuit because of poor road conditions after losing sight of the vehicle near East C Avenue and 27th Street.
Minutes later, a homeowner reported three people running away from a vehicle that was abandoned in a yard in the 6000 block of East D Avenue. Using a sheriff’s tracking dog, police found the three occupants.
The driver, a 42-year-old Kalamazoo resident, and one of the passengers, a 36-year-old Kalamazoo resident, were arrested on various charges, sheriff’s deputies said.
Richland police assisted sheriff’s deputies.
