They have painted together for many years and still find inspiration In Plein air painting, out in the open air, inspired by natural beauty. Gallery North: The September exhibit is “Transitions,” a show by mixed media painter and jewelry designer Jurate Harrison, photographer Jeff Harrison and woodwork artist Ed French. Cascadia Art Museum: Ongoing through November is “The Art of Howard Duell,” featuring the work of a leading mid-century Northwest sculptor and painter who lived in Edmonds. Showing through Nov. 20 are “Northwest Arts & Crafts Movement: The Chase Family and Friends,” showcasing the work of a prominent family in Washington state cultural history, and “The Art of Reading,” a collection of works depicting books and the act of reading either as the main subject or hidden away in the periphery of the composition. Museum of Northwest Art: “Arreguín: Painter from the New World” showcases Northwest artist Alfredo Arreguín, one of the most accomplished Latino artists in the nation. Over his long, successful career, Arreguín has addressed his Mexican-American heritage by commemorating historic figures and political activists. The exhibit, curated by Matthew Kangas, runs through Oct. 9 at the museum, 121 S. First St. La Conner.

Everett Film Festival: Established in 1997, the event returns Sept. 10, beginning at 1 p.m. at Everett Community College’s Jackson Center, with 11 screenings including animated films, documentaries, narrative features and shorts. A featured film will be “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story,” about the Hollywood Golden Age screen siren who also was an inventor, designing and patenting a communication system during World War II that became the underlying technology of cellular phones, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Snohomish Film Festival: The second-annual event — in-person this time — is set for 3-8 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Thirty short films, many by local area filmmakers, will be screened, along with Q&A panels by the films’ cast and crew, as well as live readings from script contest finalists.
