February 17th, 1933 – September 1, 2022 Mary Stella Carrera (Fisher), our precious mother, passed away on September 1st, 2022. Stella was a lifelong resident of Buckeye, and an active member of the community; she was known and loved by many. Stella began playing the organ for St. Henry’s Church at the age of 16 and would continue playing for 60 years. She earned her pilot’s license in 1952 at the age of 19, trading Spanish lessons and babysitting hours for flying lessons. At that time, she was the youngest female pilot in Arizona. After graduating valedictorian from high school, Stella worked for Goodyear Aerospace for 6 years as a secretary in contract administration and later went on to work for the Buckeye School District for 26 years. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Fernando Carrera Jr. They were married for 66 years and together they raised four children. Stella loved music, entertaining, traveling, crossword puzzles, and rainy days, but mostly she loved being with her family and friends. Stella was preceded in death by her oldest child, Deb Webb (Jim) and her husband Fernando (Guero). She is survived by her daughters Monica Wilburn (Curtis) and Cathy Shea (Steve); son Stephen (Dee Dee); 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Services will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 24750 W Lower Buckeye Rd, on Thursday Oct 13th. Rosary at 10 am, services at 10:30.
