It says it right there in the name: antojitos, Spanish for little cravings.
And what they are is simply delicious Mexican snacks often containing a variety of snack chips, fresh fruit or corn topped with some sort of spicy seasoning and often, glorious cheese in any form.
The antojitos come in various forms, but the majority of them contain either Doritos Tortilla Chips, Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Cheese Flavored Snacks, or the ever-popular Takis Tortilla Rolls.
The orders are usually garnished with everything from corn kennels, jalapeños, nacho or powder cheese, lemon juice and mayonnaise. Almost all contain some sort of hot sauce or spice for the extra spicy kick – Tijin chile powder or an array of hot sauces such as Valentina, Tapatio, Cholula or Louisiana.
For “healthier” eaters, some selections are made from fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood, and some even come in cold soupy or beverage form, with Clamato juice as the staple. Shrimp, beef jerky and avocados are the adds of choice.

They go by varying names and recipes, but often include papas locas (homemade chips topped with hot sauce, lime and sometimes chamoy or soy sauce); or elotes chorreados (corn kernels on a layer of Doritos or Fritos chips topped with anything from cheese to powder chile and cheese, mayonnaise and hot sauce).
Also popular is some take on a piña loca (cut out pineapple with chamoy and often chile powder and lime); and the cacahuate mix (Japanese peanuts mixed with cucumbers or other veggies and yes, topped with chamoy).
