Viewer discretion is advised.

The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to a critical incident that occurred on November 6, 2022.

This incident began in the area of 32nd and Glenrosa Avenues around 4:30 p.m. when a community member called 911. The caller told the 911 operator that a man was shot in the head.

The caller indicated his friend was shot by 5 black males who left in a white vehicle.

As a two-person patrol team arrived on scene, witnesses pointed at a white vehicle driving by and told officers the suspects were in that car. Officers followed the car to the area of 31st Avenue and Campbell Road where they attempted to pull it over. The vehicle did not stop so the officers turned on their lights and siren and went into pursuit.

The pursuit continued into an apartment complex in the area of 21st and Turney Avenues. The vehicle stopped and the passengers in the back seat got out and took off running. The car took off again and crashed into a parked car. The driver and front seat passenger got out and took off running. The officers chased the two males through the complex. One of the males then climbed a block wall, and that is when the officer-involved shooting occurred.

Surveillance footage was obtained from the apartments that captures the two males running from the officers. One of the males had a firearm in his left hand.

The two males were later found in the area uninjured. Another man was located in the area but was later released. The rear passengers were not located. The victim from the initial call was treated at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other community members or officers were injured.

A firearm was located in the alley on the other side of the wall where the officer-involved shooting occurred.

The officer involved in this shooting has been with the department for 3 years and is assigned to the Cactus Park Precinct.

This incident is the subject of an administrative and criminal investigation into the actions of the officers as well as a separate criminal investigation into the man’s actions. The criminal investigations will be turned over to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review.

Conclusions about whether the actions of the officers are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete.

Public records law required redaction of certain personal identifying information before video is released publicly. That is why you may see some parts of Body Worn Camera (BWC) blurred or covered with a black box. Redacted video is released to local media in conjunction with the release of this Critical Incident Briefing for independent review and publication. Complete, unedited versions of the BWC are released to attorneys and the courts as evidence in a criminal case.

https://phoenix.gov/policeVideopolicePolice@phoenixpolicePolice Main PIOphoenixpd.pio@phoenix.govhttps://www.phoenix.gov/newssite/Lists/MediaContact/Attachments/36/Police2.pngPhoenixPolice
