By • Thursday, September 8, 2022Bacanora, the acclaimed Mexican restaurant in downtown Phoenix, has been named to Bon Appetit’s annual list of the 50 Best New Restaurants in the U.S.
The history: Former Ghost Ranch chef Rene Andrade partnered with Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin of Tacos Chiwas to open Bacanora in the Grand Avenue space formerly home to Barrio Café Gran Reserva in March 2021.
The food: Bacanora features simple wood-fired Sonoran dishes Andrade enjoyed while growing up near Nogales.
Did you know? Bacanora was one of five finalists for Best New Restaurant at this year’s James Beard Foundation Awards.
Also honored: Bata, a wood-fired New American grill in Tucson, also made Bon Appetit’s 50 best for 2022.
