American Airlines (Nasdaq: AHL) is adding the slate of flights ahead of the Super Bowl, which is scheduled to take place in Glendale on Feb. 12. The PGA Tour is also hosting the WM Phoenix Open that same weekend.
In addition to adding flights to Albuquerque, the Texas-based carrier is adding a total of 91 flights between Phoenix and 22 other cities.
“Whether you want to cheer on your favorite team as they score a touchdown or go wild as your preferred golfer hits a hole-in-one on the 16th hole, American Airlines is offering sports fans, more flights and more seats to see the action in person,” Jason Reisinger, American’s managing director of global network planning said in a statement. “We’re excited to have football and golf fans travel to our Phoenix hub and experience everything ‘the Valley of the Sun’ has to offer.”
At about 23%, American Airlines has the largest market share out of the 10 airlines operating at the Sunport as of October. American saw more than 112,300 passengers flying in and out of the Sunport during that month.
